Design District History
The Design District also known as Buena Vista meaning "Good View" in Spanish is located in the city of Miami, Florida. The city of Miami is located in the North East quadrant of Miami-Dade. You can still find signs around the neighborhood that reference the name Buena Vista like at the Buena Vista Post Office and the Buena Vista school. You can still find many single family homes in the neighborhood that date back to the 1920's.
In the 1980's through the 1990's the area had fallen to urban decay, but then in the late 1990's and 2000's new life breathed into the area in the form of art gallerys, restaurants, and retail locations catering to the design conscious shopper. Craig Robins, lead developer at Dacra purchased many run-down buildings in the 18 square block area and convinced many top designers to relocate.
